TE Connectivity's R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.
The Product Development Engineer role describing is integral for contributing to the design, development, and testing of energy products within the Energy Bangalore Engineering Design Center team. This position involves:
. Product Design and Development: Contributing to the creation and refinement of products across different voltage applications (Low Voltage, Medium Voltage, High Voltage), particularly focusing on solutions like Solar Harness, Connectors, and Fittings.
. Testing and Lab Management: Taking charge of tests conducted in the in-house lab to validate product performance and compliance, which likely involves hands-on testing and coordinating test procedures to ensure they meet industry standards.
. Engineering Support for Existing Products: Ensuring existing product lines remain competitive by providing engineering support for improvements, issue resolution, and updates as needed.
. This role requires collaboration across different teams and disciplines within TE Energy, with a strong emphasis on both technical expertise in LV, MV, and HV applications and operational oversight within the test lab
. Design and develop LV, MV, and HV energy products, including Solar Harness, Connectors, and Fittings, using 3D CAD (Creo/Pro-E) and 2D CAD for prototype molds, jigs, and fixtures.
. Lead Design FMEAs and create design verification test plans, focusing on product reliability and compliance with regulatory standards.
. Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities through Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) and competitor product reverse engineering.
. Support global teams in launching new products by coordinating NPI activities, process improvement, and design refinements for manufacturability.
. Record design review outcomes, manage design changes, and document testing results, maintaining product data in Windchill PDMLink for global visibility.
. Plan and execute in-house lab tests for LV, MV, and HV applications, ensuring compliance with test standards, and operate lab equipment (UTM, Climatic Chambers, Salt Spray Set-up).
. Conduct quality system audits, validate inspection/testing procedures, and perform Measurement System Analyses (MSAs) to maintain high testing standards.
. Innovate lab processes by implementing best practices for testing, error-proofing, and troubleshooting, improving both efficiency and quality
. Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, perform regular risk assessments, and maintain ISO 17025 documentation for lab accreditation efforts.
. Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Electrical or similar stream
. Experience in Solar Connectors, High Volt connectors and Plastics testing.
. Experience in product design of Energy domain products (Overhead connectors, cable accessories, Solar connectors, Joints/Splices, Terminations Switchgear connect, Insulators, Surge arrestors, HVCS, etc.)
. knowledge of Metal Casting Process, Metal Fabrication Processes, Plastic/rubber components, e.g. thermoset molding or rubber molding
. Organized, methodical and self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently on own initiative and meet own commitments is essential.
. Energy domain strong product technical expertise.
. Strong customer service mindset, delivering quality products and services on time
. Fluent communication skills, facilitating collaboration with own team, customers, internal business leaders and technology leaders to create value.
. Individual, have strong planning skills and be able to deal with multiple competing priorities.
