Job Summary: The Course Leader for the Fashion Design Department will provide academic leadership and management of the undergraduate and postgraduate Fashion Design programs. The Course Leader will ensure the courses meet high academic standards and prepare students for successful careers in the fashion industry. The ideal candidates will deeply understand industry trends and best practices in teaching and learning. They will play a pivotal role in cultivating the professional expertise of undergraduate Fashion Design students. IIAD's program is offered in partnership with Kingston University, UK, ensuring a global perspective and industry relevance.
Key Requirements:
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in Fashion Design or a related field (Ph.D. desirable) from a recognized design institution.
- Proficiency in design research, processes, and practices, demonstrating practical experience within the broader discipline.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary fashion trends, sustainability, and digital technologies.
- Extensive professional experience in the fashion industry.
- Proven experience in higher education teaching, curriculum development, and course leadership.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- A portfolio of personal design work and/or published research.
- A strong network of industry contacts.
- A commitment to innovative and inclusive teaching practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Academic Leadership :
- Lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of the Fashion Design curriculum.
- Ensure courses meet industry standards and align with the institution's academic vision.
- Collaborate with the Director Academics on strategic initiatives and program growth.
2. Curriculum and Program Development :
- Oversee the design and development of new modules or courses.
- Regularly review and update the curriculum to incorporate industry trends and innovations.
- Integrate sustainable fashion practices and digital technologies into course content.
3. Teaching and Learning :
- Deliver high-quality teaching through lectures, workshops, and one-on-one mentoring.
- Assess students work, provide constructive feedback, and support their creative development.
- Supervise final-year projects, dissertations, and internships.
4. Student Support and Development :
- Act as a critical point of contact for students in the Fashion Design program.
- Support students in their academic progress and career development, offering advice on industry internships, placements, portfolios, and professional practice.
- Organize extracurricular activities such as fashion shows, exhibitions, and guest lectures.
5. Industry Engagement :
- Foster relationships with key stakeholders in the fashion industry, including designers, brands, and organizations.
- Facilitate student internships, collaborations, and employment opportunities.
- Organize study trips, industry visits, guest lectures, and networking events.
6. Quality Assurance :
- Ensure academic quality and standards are maintained per institutional and accreditation requirements.
- Lead in preparing for internal and external quality reviews, audits, and inspections.
7. Research and Scholarship :
- Engage in research and creative practice related to fashion design.
- Publish work in academic journals, exhibitions, or industry publications.
- Seek external funding opportunities to support research and innovation within the program.
8. Management and Administration :
- Manage the day-to-day administration of the Fashion Design program, including timetabling, staffing, and budgets.
- Supervise and mentor faculty members and support staff within the department.
- Attend departmental meetings, contribute to school-wide initiatives, and report on program performance.
