What You'll Do
Avalara's legal team is seeking a vendor legal counsel based in Pune, India. The vendor legal counsel will be responsible for managing the Legal's vendor management contracting process. One of the position's primary roles is to maintain the contract lifecycle management system (CLM) and assist in building out logical contract workflows within that system. Additionally, the vendor legal counsel will work alongside attorneys, paralegals and interns to complete miscellaneous administrative tasks, including following Avalara's vendor playbook to complete vendor legal tickets, processing agreements for signature, maintaining various datasheets and trackers, and organizing files and emails. The vendor legal counsel is a permanent position in the legal department with the potential to grow and develop within the company.
Job Duties
- Following Avalara's guidelines to complete vendor agreement and non-disclosure agreement ticket requests.
- Negotiate contracts according to the vendor playbooks, engaging with the vendor as required and escalating matters to more senior attorneys as necessary.
- Filing and searching for contracts in the CLM.
- Maintaining and organizing the CLM.
- Assist in the team's migration to a new CLM.
- Creating and facilitating operational workflows in the CLM.
- Communicating with internal business partners about legal requests and the status of contracts, seeking clarification on commercial matters and sign-off on negotiated outcomes.
- Managing administrative requests through a ticketing system.
- Preparing and sending contracts for wet or e-signature.
- Coordinating, monitoring, and improving key operating systems (internal policies, procedures, checklists, templates, examples, scripts, etc.).
- Sorting legal documents, physical mail, and emails.
- Running and reporting analytical analyses and updating internal databases.
- Assisting attorneys with miscellaneous legal and administrative tasks.
- Preparing training materials for internal stakeholders and assisting with the training.
What You'll Need to be Successful
Required Qualifications
- A graduate with a degree in law or similar.
- Admitted to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Experience working as a legal counsel in a busy environment.
- An energetic, reliable self-starter who is eager to learn and grow.
- Highly organized and efficient.
- Analytical and methodical problem solver who enjoys finding areas to improve operational efficiencies.
- Able to act independently.
- Demonstrated high standards of excellence in work product and professionalism.
- Able to take direction from a broad and diverse group of colleagues across various time zones including (London, Seattle, and Durham)
- Resourceful team player with the ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Outstanding abilities to communicate in person, in writing, over the phone, and by video conferencing.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once.
- Strong sense of discretion and confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Google Drive, Adobe Pro, AdobeSign, and DocuSign.
- Ability to learn and manage new tools and systems as needed.
- Experience creating and maintaining logical processes and workflows.
- Flexibility to take on new responsibilities as needed and keen to continue learning to support Avalara's legal department.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with Jira and Ironclad or similar CLM system.
