Position Overview:

We are seeking a meticulous, creative, and deadline-driven Copy Editor to join our editorial team. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for grammar, consistency, and style while enhancing the clarity and flow of our content. As a Copy Editor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of our international, national, and state news coverage, as well as in-depth personal interviews. You will work closely with writers, reporters, and designers to produce captivating stories that resonate with our readers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Edit and proofread news articles, headlines, and interviews for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style.
• Ensure all content adheres to Indie Times editorial standards and maintains a clear, engaging voice.
• Fact-check information to ensure the accuracy of international, national, and state news reports, as well as personal interviews.
• Work efficiently under tight deadlines to ensure timely publication.
• Review and approve content layouts, ensuring correct text placement and consistency with design elements.
• Provide feedback to writers and assist in the development of storylines and features.
• Stay current on news trends, editorial standards, and best practices in journalism.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field WOULD BE A 3+ years of experience as a Copy Editor, preferably in news media or a fast-paced publication will be an added advantage.
• Strong command of English grammar and editorial style.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
• Proven ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines.
• Familiarity with AP Style and experience editing news content.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Passion for news and journalism, with an interest in international, national, and local stories.
