Why we're hiring:

This role is Mumbai/Delhi based and will have coverage of South Asia. This position would suit a person with a background in compliance and ethics and experience of in particular ABC risks, supply chain risk, cultural risks, whistleblowing, control environments and records management.

The role sits in WPP's Business Integrity team (within WPP's Legal function) and reports to the WPP Compliance & Ethics Director, APAC, based in Singapore who in turn reports to the WPP General Counsel, Corporate Risk, based in London, who in turn reports to the WPP Group Chief Counsel.

What you'll be doing:

Your key responsibilities and accountabilities will include:

  • Supporting the APAC Compliance & Ethics Director in ensuring that WPP's business integrity programme is understood throughout the region and that resources, systems and processes are aligned with WPP's business integrity programme and the WPP Policy Book, including WPP's Code of Business Conduct. This role will support WPP's businesses in South Asia with remediation actions where needed.
  • Responding to and assisting the APAC Compliance & Ethics Director with responses to day to day compliance, ethics and risk queries relating to South Asia.
  • Identifying areas of concern and root causes arising from the work performed and reporting these appropriately within WPP with recommended solutions including remediation where required.
  • Assisting the APAC Compliance & Ethics Director with monitoring and communicating regulatory change in the region and actively influencing WPP's businesses to champion business integrity and align with the WPP Policy Book and Internal Control Framework.
  • Assisting the APAC Compliance & Ethics Director with devising and delivering business integrity training programmes for WPP staff.
  • Assisting with information preparation and gathering in response to regulatory or legal requests.
  • Assisting with the completion, review and evaluation at local level of internal risk assessments.
  • Collaborating with other Corporate / HQ and network departments in pursuit of the objectives of the role.
  • Investigating where required whistleblowing reports raised in respect of WPP's businesses in South Asia and breaches of the WPP Code of Business Conduct and external laws, regulations and codes applicable to agencies in the region.
  • Any other tasks which may be assigned from time to time.

What you'll need:

  • Solution finder able to work without pre-determined programme to identify and solve issues and make viable recommendations
  • Ability to deliver results in a commercial environment through written and verbal presentation skills
  • Investigative experience including knowledge of chain of evidence procedures and how to ensure the confidentiality of sensitive material
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a large and varied workload effectively and efficiently to achieve positive results
  • A professional background within legal or compliance/ethics or qualification desirable

WPP's business integrity programme is integral to ensuring that our policies, procedures and control environment are understood and adhered to across all geographies and markets. It is produced by mapping resources, systems and processes against WPP's risk appetite, governance requirements and regulator expectations and then crafting actions from the results.

Actions for the business integrity team focus on tackling root causes of risk and include:

  • in respect of resources, championing and enhancing messages and examples from global, regional and local leadership with communications, training sessions, workshops, townhalls and practical guidance, knowhow and resources for our people and providing on the ground support for day to day queries from our networks;
  • in respect of systems, advising on the implementation of WPP's policies, procedures and controls and providing a compliance lens for the design and structure of our enterprise resource planning (ERP) environment; and
  • in terms of processes, conducting an annual assessment of business integrity risk, monitoring dynamic data feeds, pro-active management of self-certifications and disclosures from our people, reviewing and investigating concerns raised including by whistleblowers and tracking remediation efforts.
