Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team as a Coffee Roaster. This role will include but not be limited to all aspects of coffee sourcing, coffee roasting, quality control, packaging, order fulfillment, inventory management, and day-to-day operations of the roastery.
Key Responsibilities:
Roasting:
- Operate coffee roasting equipment, ensuring consistent and high-quality roasts.
- Follow the maintenance schedule for production and sample roaster and follow it as per set guidelines.
- Develop roast profiles for various coffee beans to achieve desired flavor profiles and characteristics.
- Conduct quality control checks through cupping protocol and agtron reading to ensure each batch is consistent.
- Package roasted coffee beans in accordance with customer orders and quality standards.
- Manage and fulfill customer orders in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of green and roasted coffee beans, packaging materials, and other supplies.
- Monitor and optimize roasting and production schedules to meet customer demand while minimizing waste.
- Implement and maintain food safety and sanitation protocols in the roastery.
- Train and supervise junior staff members on coffee roasting techniques, quality control procedures, and operational tasks.
- Collaborate with management to develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Sourcing:
- Scout for specialty coffee growers and beans that align with the company's taste profile and product offerings.
- Sample green coffee beans using sample roaster and evaluate based on quality and product portfolio fit.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of green coffee beans and other materials.
- Collaborate with management and sales team to decide order quantities of each variety.
Additional Responsibilites:
- Create modules for coffee education related to brewing and tasting.
- Scout for new B2B clients to ensure we are utilizing atleast 50% of the roasting machine's capacity.
Qualifications:
- 2 to 3 years of experience in coffee roasting, preferably in a specialty coffee roastery.
- Proficiency with MS excel
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining commercial coffee roasting equipment.
- Strong understanding of coffee roasting principles, including roast development, temperature control, and flavor profiling.
- Experience with coffee blending and creating custom blends.
- Experience with quality control processes, including cupping and sensory evaluation.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing consistently high-quality coffee.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Ability to lift and move bags of coffee beans weighing up to 50 pounds.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of coffee sourcing and green coffee grading is a plus.
- Proficiency with Cropster or similar roasting software is a plus.
- Familiarity with coffee packaging equipment and materials.
