Cloud Application Development Engineer, Application Modernization

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  
• Experience in one or more languages such as Java, Python, Go, or similar.
  
• Experience managing internal or client-facing projects, troubleshooting clients technical issues, and working with engineering teams, sales, services, and customers.
  

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in developing scalable applications using Java, Python, or similar including data structures, algorithms, and software design.
  
• Experience refactoring legacy monolithic applications to micro-services, APIs, or server-less models.
  
• Experience with unit or automated testing tools.
  
• Experience with scalable networking technologies (e.g., Load Balancers, Firewalls) and web standards (e.g., REST APIs, web security mechanisms).
  
• Experience in open source server software (e.g., NGINX, RabbitMQ, Redis, Elasticsearch).
  
• Knowledge of Developer Operations practices, including infrastructure as code, continuous integration, and automated deployment.

As a Cloud Application Development Engineer, you will work with customers to assess existing Enterprise applications in anticipation of a cloud migration by providing application design, assessing and classifying applications and application platforms, and proposing rewrite approaches to facilitate deployment to cloud native products like Google Kubernetes Engine. You will work with customers on legacy application re-design and implementation including application scaling, reliability, and ongoing operations such as application and feature rollouts, monitoring, and more. Additionally, you will work with Product Management and Product Engineering to build products. In this role, you will support customer application assessment and implementation of Google Cloud products through architecture guidance, best practices, application migration, implementation, troubleshooting, monitoring, and more.

• Maintain development practices (e.g., technical design, solution development, systems configuration, test documentation/execution, issue identification and resolution) writing modular and self-sustaining code, with repeatable quality and predictability.
  
• Ensure code is written and tested using defined coding and testing standards and frameworks.
  
• Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  
• Contribute to existing documentation and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  
• Travel up to 30% of the time depending on region as needed.
