Role Purpose (Why do we need this role)
To be responsible for cargo planning, vessel management and supervision of operations of all ports through which designed vessels pass, with a focus on the safe, efficient, and effective movement of cargo and the vessel.
Role Accountabilities (What is this role responsible for delivering)
- Receive Cargo Plans and reconcile with Customer Services and Logistics, update plans prior to sending to service providers.
- Plan cargo to maximise liftings against the pro-forma budgeted lifting's and work closely with the Trade teams to ensure that cargo capacity is maximised, considering stowage, cargo care, productivity, and port time.
- Work with the Logistics team to ensure the vessels are optimised for the positioning of empty container equipment in line with cargo requirements.
- Attend ships in the capacity of Port Captain and Liaise with the vessel, ports, stevedores to ensure the best plan is achieved and adjust plan when necessary.
- Plan cargo stowage and port operations to maximise productivity and minimise port time.
- Liaising with the Ships Master to ensure the planned stowage meets the vessels safety and stability requirements.
- Minimisation of re-stows in all ports through efficient and innovative planning and advise trade of any re-stow costs or potential costs.
- Prepare and distribute all cargo load and discharge information in a timely manner e.g., EDI plans, scan plans, load and discharge list etc.
- Coordinate operations to ensure all parties are aware of the vessel operational stowage, cargo care, securing requirements etc to ensure the operations are carried out in the most effective and efficient manner.
- Ensure the safety of the vessel and its crew during its time in port in relation to cargo operations.
- Monitor Port Operations closely to ensure the agreed operational plan is followed.
- Ensure cargo load/discharge is planned with a focus on cargo care and minimising the risk of damage due to stowage and handling. Regularly review stowage and advise issues and improvements.
- Ensure the vessel has the required equipment onboard and is used for cargo securing and cargo care minimising the need to procure equipment at short notice.
- Monitor cargo stowage and report poor stowage, damage, and potential causes of damage.
- Work closely with other planners to ensure the workload is shared.
- Responsible for adhering to and implementing the company's procedures, processes and systems and suggesting and implementing improvements.
- Company Values and Vision are regularly reviewed and are a focus for carrying out work.
- Cost And Vendor Payment Work with agents, HQ and Operations team in India to assist with CVP activities. Ensure all the activities are reported correctly and timely. Discuss discrepancies with Vendors and conclude the activity quantity, and payment value to ensure we do not pay any unjustified cost. Eg Restow Costs

Key Qualifications & Skills (What knowledge will ensure success in the role)
Qualifications
- Sea Going Experience (Strongly Recommended) or Tertiary/Technical qualification related to the Maritime Industry in operations or Logistics or proven experience as a Cargo Planner.
Technical Skills
- Experience and Knowledge of Shipping or operations
- Experience in Planning International Long-Haul Trades (Compulsory)
- Experience in Vessel Operations or similar Operations experience
- Sound understanding of Cost Management.
- Strong analytical, numerical and communication skills
- 4+ years experience in the shipping industry (preferable)
- Proven ability to build relationships and teams.
- Familiarity with the trading region, applicable Vessel, and cargo types including Break-Bulk.
- Knowledge of the commercial, technical, and legal aspects of shipping operations and management
- Ability to learn new computer systems in a short time frame.
Professional Skills
- Knowledge of the commercial, technical, and legal aspects of shipping operations and management
- Understanding SEACOS System and the ability to learn new computer systems.
