Position Summary: The Career Counselor plays a pivotal role in guiding students towards fulfilling and rewarding career paths aligned with their interests, skills, and aspirations. The incumbent will provide comprehensive career counseling services to students, assist in academic planning, and facilitate college admissions processes for both domestic and international universities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Career Counseling:
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to assist students in exploring career options and developing career goals.
- Administer and interpret career assessment tools to assess students interests, aptitudes, and personality traits.
- Provide information and resources on various career paths, educational programs, and job opportunities.
- Academic Planning:
- Collaborate with academic advisors and faculty members to support students in course selection and academic planning.
- Assist students in understanding academic requirements and prerequisites for their chosen career paths.
- Develop personalized academic plans to help students achieve their academic and career goals.
- College Admissions Support:
- Guide students through the college admissions process, including researching colleges and universities, preparing application materials, and writing personal statements.
- Organize college fairs, information sessions, and workshops to educate students and parents about college admissions requirements and procedures.
- Provide guidance on standardized testing (SAT, ACT, etc.) preparation and registration.
- Internship and Work Experience Programs:
- Facilitate opportunities for students to gain real-world work experience through internships, job shadowing, and volunteer opportunities.
- Establish partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and alumni networks to create internship and work experience programs.
- Coordinate with teachers and employers to ensure students receive meaningful learning experiences.
- Professional Development:
- Stay updated on current trends and developments in career counseling, college admissions, and employment markets.
- Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences to enhance counseling skills and knowledge.
- Collaborate with other counselors and educators to share best practices and resources.
- Parent and Community Engagement:
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to keep them informed about career counseling services and opportunities available to students.
- Organize parent workshops and seminars on topics related to career planning, college admissions, and workforce readiness.
- Build partnerships with community organizations, industry professionals, and alumni networks to expand career resources for students.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Education, or related field.
- Certification or licensure in counseling preferred (e.g., LPC, NCC).
- Previous experience in career counseling, college advising, or related field.
- Knowledge of career assessment tools and resources.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with international education systems and college admissions processes preferred.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages may be advantageous in an international school setting.
