Job Summary
The Billing Specialist is responsible for the accurate preparation, submission, and management of healthcare claims to insurance companies and patients. This role involves verifying insurance coverage, handling billing inquiries, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and payer requirements. The Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in the financial health of the organization by optimizing reimbursement and maintaining efficient billing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Claims Preparation and Submission - Prepare and submit accurate healthcare claims to insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payors. Ensure claims are submitted within payor deadlines and comply with all payor-specific requirements.
Insurance Verification - Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to claim submission. Update patient records with insurance information and obtain necessary authorizations
Denial Management and Appeals - Review and analyze denied claims to determine reasons for denials. Prepare and submit appeal letters to insurance companies to dispute denied claims. Follow up on appealed claims to ensure timely resolution and payment.
Patient Billing - Generate and send patient statements for services rendered. Address patient billing inquiries and resolve any discrepancies or issues. Establish payment plans for patients as needed and monitor compliance.
Payment Posting and Reconciliation - Post payments and adjustments to patient accounts accurately. Reconcile posted payments with bank deposits and ensure accounts are balanced. Handle any discrepancies in payments received from insurance companies and patients.
Reporting and Documentation - Maintain accurate records of all billing activities and patient interactions. Generate reports on billing activities, payment trends, and outstanding balances. Document billing processes and update procedural manuals as needed.
Compliance and Confidentiality - Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA. Maintain patient confidentiality and protect sensitive financial information. Stay updated on changes in billing regulations and payer policies.
Communication and Coordination - Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and internal departments to resolve billing issues. Collaborate with the coding, payment posting, and collections teams to ensure a seamless revenue cycle process. Provide support and training to other billing staff as needed.
Qualification
Bachelor's degree in any related field.
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing, coding, or a related role in a healthcare setting.
Skills
Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, insurance billing, and coding (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS).
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and claims processing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of healthcare regulations and payor requirements.
Working Conditions
This is an office-based role aligned with US working hours from our office in Hyderabad. May require occasional overtime during peak periods or to meet deadlines.
