Role Summary/Purpose
The Associate Vice President, Reliability Engineer craves working in a hands-on system design and architecture environment and leads by example to make sure time sensitive projects get done on time and to specifications. To be successful in this role, deep expertise in authorization solutions and event-driven architecture, microservice architecture and the ability to influence and lead technical teams are musts.
This AVP will lead the development and the production support of Synchrony's Authorizations platforms by creating and developing thoughtful solutions to anticipate bugs and maintain operational excellence. In short, you would be one of our Authorizations technical experts and team leaders.

Key Responsibilities
- Monitors, maintains and accountable for overall stable operations on Synchrony's Tandem / HP NonStop platforms
- Serves as a HP NonStop Solution Engineer to support non-functional requirements in the development, deployment and ongoing tuning as necessary.
- Invokes timely critical thinking to address the reliability of deployed releases and/or solutions
- Maintains tight coordination with Tandem HP NonStop Scrum Leaders and Developers to ensure all deployment practices are expedited
- Influence multiple agile development teams through all phases of the Agile development life cycle through SAFe
- Implement new technologies and assist developers as they migrate to new technologies
- Architect authorizations applications across the full stack, experience in HP NonStop, microservices ecosystem, JSON, and RESTful API's are a must
- Conducts code and design reviews with internal and external service providers
- Reviews, understands and recommends updates to coding and technical design standards and practices for the POS authorization teams
- Assume a broad set of tasks that aim to improve authorization software performance and reliability from wing to wing
- Researches and recommends alternative actions for problem resolution
- Influence and collaborate with software developers, product owners, application architects, and customer application experts to create amazing apps
- Mentor and influence all levels of the team: in this role, you will have the opportunity to influence up and down the chain of command
- Ensure compliance with architecture, security and technology standards set by Synchrony
- Assist in crafting and maintaining the future state technology architectural strategy, along with our application modernization and migration roadmap
- Participate in Agile scrums consisting of cross-functional teams
- Lead Agile sprints as the technical expert, including sprint planning, daily standups, backlog grooming sessions, and sprint reviews
- Ensure application code quality through development, test, and QA
- Participate in addressing root cause analyses, incident reports and provide direction in problem resolution
- Ability to analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, and implement fixes
- Passionate about the latest technologies, open source projects and languages
- Provide 24x7 on-call support periodically throughout the year
- Identify ways to increase efficiency and improve system performance
- Work with third party vendors to develop software and/or integrate their software into the company's products
Desired Characteristics
- Experience with Tandem / HP NonStop platforms architecture and operating system and fundamental languages, ie., COBOL, SCOBOL, TACL Database.
- Understanding of specifications used in the payment processing (ie, ISO 8583)
- Experience C++, Java, Kafka, DevOps and Agile based Development
- Experience with database architecture, data modeling and familiarity with MySQL & SQL
- Familiarity with JSON, REST and XML based web services
- Working knowledge of the overall payment processing industry
- Excellence in technical communication with technical and non-technical peers
- Experience with writing unit, and integration test cases for high availability
- Strong cross-functional team player with the ability to work seamlessly across a matrix organization and partner with global development companies
- Desire to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment
- Experience developing and supporting financial/banking applications
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to influence clients, team members, management and external groups
- Strong attention to detail in a team environment
- Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to analyze, use structured problem solving and available tools to troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, action plans, impact and resolution options
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor's degree with minimum 6+ years of experience with solution architecture OR, in lieu of degree, 8+ years of experience with solution architecture.
- Minimum 5 years of application development experience.
Work Timings: 02:00 PM to 11:00PM (IST)
