- This role is for Tax Associate and will focus on supporting Apollo in meeting obligations related to onboarding new investors and managing tax information for existing investors.
- Additionally, this role will coordinate with Tax Ops leadership and various business segments to design and execute processes and systems to support investor-level data management, form expiration and management, application of withholding, and tax documentation management.
- The position offers excellent opportunities for tax and technology integration, coordination across internal and external stakeholders teams, and hands-on experience across a broad array of Private Equity, Credit, and Real Estate operations for the right candidate.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The individual will be expected to have strong data management and capabilities, to include identification of key data points across a variety of inputs (IRS tax forms and investor materials), checking and inputting of data into relevant internal systems, identification of exceptions/issues, overall data governance and coordination with stakeholders to remediate issues.
- Demonstrate an ability to respond to a variety of tax challenges, think critically about existing procedures and identify ways to improve via process enhancements and technology solutions, support the organization of firm-wide data and documents. Work across a myriad of teams, both external and internal.
- Support the onboarding of new investors and interact with investor services/tax team members to resolve issues.
- Perform regular data quality checks and identify issues and remediate with priority.
- Enhance internal processes to manage investor onboarding functions and manage changes to the investor population s tax dataset.
- Follow a defined manual workflow to capture key data points in a centralized repository across a variety of tax and legal documentation.
- Should be familiar with US tax data requirements, to include reportable information required to be included for Schedules K-1, 1065, 1042, 1042-S.
- Analyze and Identify data issues and work with relevant tax team members to resolve.
- Support project management reporting for leadership and key stakeholders
- Coordinate internally with Apollo Tax Ops and relevant business tax teams to deliver accurate tax information.
- Work across Apollo Tax Ops to integrate into a variety of functions, to include Fund Launches, Tax Data Management, Investor Onboarding, IRS Chapter 3, and Chapter 4 reporting and withholding.
- Comfort working in a small team environment as we'll as be independently able to identify, prioritize, and execute on tasks.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of 5 years experience working at either an accounting firm, multinational bank, or multinational asset/fund manager with focus on Investor Onboarding, U.S. Tax Compliance, Reporting, and/or Withholding
- MBA Finance or any other masters degree and above.
- Advanced organizational and verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of Chapters 3 and 4 of the IRC
- Familiarity with US tax filings is highly desirable but not required.
- Fundamental understanding of the technical rules and compliance responsibilities of Chapters 3 and 4 of the IRC, particularly IRS Withholding Certificates (Forms W-9 and W-8)
- Familiarity with accountholder/investor onboarding
- Experience with data management
- Experience with Process Definition, Design, and Execution
- Experience with business requirements definition for technology build.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly when engaging with external parties.
- Experience using Alteryx and Salesforce would be added advantage.
