Job Title: Associate Editor, Acquisition & Development

About the Role:
The Associate Editor, Acquisition & Development, is pivotal in steering the UPSC portfolios growth and success. This role demands adherence to the strategic development plan, leveraging a deep understanding of the UPSC market, and building connections with coaching institutes and serving officers. A comprehensive grasp of the publishing process, combined with a customer-centric approach, ensures that the materials meet the highest standards and cater to the needs of UPSC aspirants. Effective cost management is crucial, balancing budget constraints with quality output.
How you will make an impact:
Content and Author Acquisition
- Take ownership of acquiring prominent authors and ensuring timely delivery of their content.
- Explain the book publishing process to authors and ensure adherence to timelines.
- Conduct market research to understand customer requirements and identify gaps from Wileys perspective.
- Perform data analysis on projects in comparison to competition and market requirements, draw inferences, develop strategies, and execute content acquisition.
- Work across teams (product, marketing, sales) to ensure the success of new releases.
- Collaborate with the product development team to produce high-quality and agile products.
- Prepare and manage timelines for all internal and external processes.
- Adhere to the strategic publishing plan for the designated market.
- Ensure that projects are delivered cost-effectively and released on time.
- Work with the business development led to explore opportunities for delivering custom learning products based on published content.
Product development and promotion
- Developmental work with market intelligence, competition analysis, and proper product positioning.
- Work closely with development teams (both in-house and vendors) to ensure proper preparation and submission of manuscripts.
- Obtain approvals on proofs and finalize them.
- Follow the delivery timeline with authors and vendors.
- Collaborate with the marketing and sales team to ensure greater visibility of all products and effective use of the author network for all developed books.
What we look for:
- Postgraduate degree
- 4-8 years of experience, with a background in working on UPSC titles and understanding of latest trends in the UPSC market
- Strong editorial skills and subject matter expertise; proven track record of developing a portfolio (preferably UPSC) from scratch.
- Familiarity with pre-press production processes and quality checks
- Agile project management skills and effective coordination with internal and external stakeholders in the project
- Self-driven with a qualitative approach to work and strict adherence to the delivery timeline
