The Wildlife and Habitats Division at WWF-India is seeking to recruit a dynamic conservation biologist to support and coordinate elements of the conservation program for tigers, elephants and other priority species. We seek applications from experienced conservation professionals with a track record of managing projects, competency in the analysis of ecological datasets, and delivering timely and high quality outputs, developing proposals for conservation projects, supporting project management and M&E, adept in interacting with key stakeholders (Government and non-Government agencies) and supporting conservation research and the development of relevant technical outputs.
Job Profile:
Coordination support for species conservation/ project management in landscapes (50%)
- Support coordination for all aspects of the conservation portfolio for the priority species.
- Lead/ support project management for select projects.
- Help maintain project dashboard to track progress of key progress for priority species.
- Undertake / support analyses/ support landscape teams for -sensitive projects and deliverables that need technical inputs, and mentor / build capacities of colleagues for data analysis.
- Support operationalizing data management systems.
- Support reporting-back on W&H program indicators.
- Support species recovery planning.
- Support the compilation and analysis of primary and secondary data including spatial data and creation of maps.
- Support technical training, data analysis and intervention design for human-wildlife conflict management across India.
- Support landscape-scale connectivity analysis (mapping, characterising, updating and monitoring) and development of periodic landscape-scale reports including corridor profiles.
Program development and networking (15%)
- Lead/ support drafting grant applications, in close coordination with Secretariat and landscape teams.
- Contribute to organization and coordination of relevant internal and external meetings and workshops.
- Actively mentor junior colleagues and help build capacities, especially for writing and communication.
- Follow network developments on biodiversity/ ecosystem conservation and inform integration into WWF-India programs, as relevant.
- Manage relevant MoUs and academic collaborations.
Communications & outreach (15%)
- Develop management relevant and impactful publications relevant to the W&H program
- Compile regular updates from priority species conservation projects across WWF-India landscapes for internal and external communication
- Work with W&H colleagues to coordinate with State and Central agencies and other key stakeholders for collaborative conservation efforts including developing MOUs and liaising between conservation partners at national, regional levels, and local levels.
Additional responsibilities:
- Support M&E for relevant programs/ landscapes
- Contribute to other responsibilities, as assigned. This position may entail travel to diverse locations within India, or overseas, as required.
Requirements
Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- MSc or PhD in Wildlife Science, Ecology, Conservation Biology or allied disciplines. (6 years post-MSc., or 2 years post PhD).
- Proficiency in project development, project management, and the design and Experience in running and managing conservation projects pertaining to large mammal conservation
- Proficiency in data management and analysis of ecological, social, and spatial data
- Proficiency in technical writing such as grant applications, reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts
- Proficiency in excel, R, QGIS, ArcGIS
- Background in multi-disciplinary research.
- Experience in engaging with Government and other stakeholders
