TheRole: Apprentice - Data Management & Index Operations
The Team: The candidate will be part of the Index Management & Production Group (IMPG) which is responsible for the maintenance and calculation of S&P Dow Jones Indices
The Impact: IMPG Apprentice has the opportunity to assist S&P Dow Jones Indices with achieving its mission to provide benchmarks that accurately gauge the markets and help institutions and individuals make well-informed decisions.
What's in it for you: As an apprentice, you will get exposure to several Market Management teams within the S&P Dow Jones Indices Index Management and Production Group. Exceptional learning agility, time management, and analytical skills are necessary for your success. You will be able to apply your skills to real-world industry scenarios, gain experience in communicating in a professional environment and contribute to key projects that are critical to the calculation of S&P Dow Jones Indices.
Responsibilities
- An apprentice will spend a significant amount of time utilizing excel to conduct data analysis
- Perform analytical research on companies for S&P's annual IWF (Investable Weight Factor) review
- Opportunity to suggest ideas to incorporate Data Science and Artificial Intelligence based solutions to improve the quality of S&P's products and processes
- Contribute towards index specific projects and deadlines
- Utilizing various data vendor software to support the maintenance process of standard indices
- Work in close coordination with the technology group to further improve our system capabilities and/or troubleshoot production issues
What We're Looking For: The S&P Dow Jones Indices Index Management and Production Group (IMPG) apprentice program is an eleven-month, full-time position beginning in June 2024. The program seeks to attract high achievers from a diverse pool of undergraduate and postgraduate institutions
Basic Qualifications: (define basic qualifications)
- From an accredited university or college is required
- All majors eligible; Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, and Finance majors preferred
- Must be able to work independently on projects
- Must be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to learn quickly, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving, time-management, attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Understanding of financial markets
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of programming languages such as VBA, Python or Matlab (good to have)
