Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for an Application Developer System i (AS/400) at Cogency Inc in Kochi. The Developer will be responsible for software development, programming, database management, CSS, and integration tasks on a day-to-day basis. As an Application Developer System i (AS/400), you will be responsible for designing, coding, testing, and maintaining applications running on the IBM i platform. You will work with both RPG and SQL languages, utilizing the full capabilities of the AS/400 system.
Qualifications
- Software Development, Programming, and Integration skills
- Experience with databases and CSS
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a team and independently
- Knowledge of AS/400 system development is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
Mandatory Skills for Screening (Top 5 Skills):
- RPG / RPGLE (RPG IV) Strong coding experience in RPG and RPGLE, with expertise in writing and maintaining RPG programs.
- SQLRPG Experience working with SQL embedded in RPG programs for database interactions.
- CL Programming Proficiency in Control Language (CL) programming for job control and application flow.
- IBM i (AS/400) Platform Expertise Deep knowledge of the IBM i (AS/400) system, including its architecture, tools, and features.
- API Design and Coding Experience with designing and coding APIs, including integration between systems and services.
Good to Have (Not Mandatory):
- Familiarity with DB Tools and Utilities (e.g., SQL Developer, DB2 utilities).
- Knowledge of additional API frameworks and technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Development:
- Create high-level and low-level design documents for system requirements.
- Design and develop RPG/RPGLE programs to meet business requirements.
- Write SQLRPG code for database interaction within the RPG programs.
- Develop and maintain APIs for integration purposes, ensuring efficient data transfer between systems.
Testing & Documentation:
- Prepare and execute unit tests for the developed code.
- Create test cases and ensure code quality via debugging and troubleshooting.
- Document all code changes and development processes clearly for future reference and for the use of other developers.
Agile Methodology:
- Participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the developed software meets the requirements and specifications.
IBM i (AS/400) Expertise:
- Leverage the full suite of IBM i tools and utilities for system management, database operations, and development.
- Ensure all system i (AS/400) components are optimized and functioning as required.
Communication & Problem Solving:
- Work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements.
- Provide regular updates on progress and issues in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills when diagnosing application or system issues
