GRS Intern - India

Global Risk Services (GRS) supports the execution of various services for the second line of defence for all business segments across geographies. The unit acts as a go-to centre of excellence for all operational activities for RCFCC through its smart and efficient processes.

GRS manages Enterprise Risk Management, Risk Reporting and Service Delivery, Retail Risk Services, Group Operational Risk, Control Testing Hub, Change Team, CISRO, Compliance Assurance, Compliance Surveillance and Financial Crime Intelligence Unit/High Risk Client Unit.

Model Risk Policy & Governance (MRPG) is part of the broader Model Risk Management function, which acts as the 2nd Line of Defence for Model Risk Principal Risk Type (PRT) within Standard Chartered Group. MRPG is responsible for ongoing assessment of the model risk management framework in accordance with the specific requirements set out under the policy and associated standards. This includes, but not limited to, preparation of Group's model risk assessments / Group's model risk profile reporting / oversight reporting to Model Risk Committee and other senior management committees and assisting and advising countries in relation to local model risk governance requirements.

RRSD Unit faces the Group Risk Function with a peripheral support to CEO CIB Function. It handles wide spectrum of activities to support the Enterprise Risk Analytics, Traded Risk Management, Risk & Compliance Reporting teams of the Group Risk. The unit is also currently expanding itself to support the CEO CIB Office with Credit Portfolio Management.

About The Programme

The programme will involve on-the-job training and an innovation project which exposes you to the inner workings of our business to provide real work experience.

You'll be assigned a mentor to provide you with ongoing guidance and mentorship throughout the internship.

The top skills of a GRS intern would be project management, stakeholder management, Risk Management & Reporting, Credit Risk Management Process, Operational Effectiveness & PCF Attestation, Risk Identification, Control Design, Effectiveness Validation, SAS Data Presentation and Data Visualisation tools like Tableau, Data Analysis Skills.

The primary responsibility of this role is delivery of CIB credit risk reporting and MI, working directly with and supporting the group CIB credit risk team, which rolls up to into the Global Head of Reporting, Risk & CFCC. The risk reports are used by risk managers, Group Risk Framework Owners, committees and senior management, Regulators, and other internal stakeholders.

Analyst, MRPG Governance and Comms will work closely with various SMEs within the function and outside (e.g., Model Dev teams) to support governance activities and deliver training and communication strategy for Model Risk.

Responsibilities

The intern role will be involved in our Bank's GRS program related task and documentation work.

  • Under the GRS ambit, the candidate will be expected to help the BAU team in executing UATs in doing reconciliations, variance checks, quality checks between different versions of the reports.
  • Under the documentation work, candidate will be required to re-validate and update our process documents. Re validating the documents will require a sit in with the BAU team to understand the current process flow and ensure its documented correctly in the DOI, flag the inconsistencies and update the latest flow.
  • This requires very good MS excel, word and PowerPoint skills, astute mind to look for inconsistencies, eye for details and good communication and command over the language to clearly articulate the contents.
  • Additionally, If the candidate possesses Python or VBA skills, then he/she can assist the team in automating manual tasks.
  • Support executing the Training Strategy for Model Risk, especially in the areas of training and communication and ensure appropriate outcomes are delivered.
  • Contribute to the overall design and execution of various training and communication related initiatives for Model Risk
  • Support training need analysis for stakeholders within various Businesses / functions for Model Risk and accordingly contribute to the planning, development, and execution of customized training programmes.
  • Support the Model Risk Management team to ensure that Group Model Risk Policy (GMRP) and Group Model Risk Standards (GMRP) are adhered to.
  • Support the efforts to improve and streamline existing processes and contribute to building standard templates, procedures, and practices to provide an efficient oversight to the model life cycle.
  • Support for the effective administration of the Group Model Inventory tool (GAME Global Model Analytics Explorer) and Control Framework Documents (RTFs, policies, standards).

Preferred Skills

  • Analytical mindset Able to detect outliers by observing movements and trends in data. Be able to investigate issues and identify the drivers.
  • Excellent knowledge and practical experience of data manipulation, analysis and amalgamation
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written, in English.
  • Strong experience in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, and preferably Tableau
  • Hands-on Tooling Programming skills in Python, VBA, API, Microsoft (Access, PowerPoint), Visualisation Tools (Tableau, PowerBI),
  • Works well individually as well as part of a team, especially across borders.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines with minimal direction.
  • Inquisitive, with attention to detail. Proactive attitude towards work
  • Ability to explain complex matters in simple and intuitive terms.
  • Ability to track and report progress updates of multiple areas against milestones and highlight key issues.
  • Good organiser of incoming requests within the team
  • Ownership mindset, able to think creatively and be open to new ideas.

Eligibility

Management Graduates with good credit risk knowledge.

We're looking for team players with excellent academic achievements and extracurricular activities, who are agile, flexible problem solvers with strong technical abilities and open to learning the latest tech stack.

You need to be a penultimate year student, able to intern in April - June 2025 and start full-time employment in July 2026.
