2. What can you tell us about ATG Repositories and their types?

For this Oracle interview question, your answer could be; The interface between your database and your ATG application is known as a repository. At the macro level, any web application comprises two components that are source code and a database. To modify your source code, you can use the database. The repository is that interface that allows you to do so.

In other words, a repository gives us a user-friendly interface that helps us in accessing the data in our database. It helps in improving the source code. Our data is made available to us in the form of a Java Object.

There are two kinds of repositories available. They are as follows:

  • SQL Repository: This Repository uses the General SQL Adapter (GSQ). The function of this repository is to map between ATG and the data stored in the SQL database.
  • Versioned Repository: SQL Repository extension that is used in ATG Content Administration is known as a Versioned Repository. Every set of data has a different version in this repository. When new data is entered, the previous one remains intact. A new space emerges for the latest data with a different version number. It is an effective way of managing things.

3. What knowledge do you have regarding pipelines and their types?

The pipeline is an execution manager. It is known to provide modular code execution. ATG commerce uses pipelines frequently for various executive functions. The tasks that are accomplished by using pipelines are loading an Order, saving an Order, and checking out an order.

The two types of pipelines used by ATG in Dynamo are as follows:

  • DAS Servlet Pipeline: JHTML requests are handled by using this pipeline.
  • DAF Servlet Pipeline: This pipeline is used to handle JSP requests.

4. Tell us something about the nucleus in ATG?

The nucleus is a container for different components of ATG. A nucleus component is nothing more than a configuration file that uses Java Class and is associated with a .properties file extension. The use of a nucleus is to create and initialise component instances on request. The management of the component class is also through the nucleus. It discovers the properties file for the component. By this, it relinquishes the class file of the component. The nucleus is essential for the proper functioning of ATG.

5. Can you tell us about caching and enumerate its different modes?

The type of memory used often to improve the speed of data is known as a cache. The data required for any process usually remains in the main memory. But temporarily, this data is transferred to the cache memory if it is used very often. Caching is the process of saving and obtaining data from the cache.

The five different modes of caching are:

  • Simple
  • Locked
  • Distributed
  • Distributed JMS
  • Distributed Hybrid

6. What are the types of cache found in ATG? Elaborate.

There are two types of cache present in ATG. They are:

  • Item cache: It is the cache that holds value for the repository items. Various repository item IDs are present here.
  • Query cache: The repository IDs are present in the query cache for the items that match particular queries in the cache.

(Please pay attention to what the Oracle interview question states if the interviewer has asked you to elaborate, then go ahead and elaborate.)

7. What can you tell us about a droplet in ATG? Also, can you tell us about the input parameters for each droplet?

Droplets work as the backbone of the front-end content for all applications of ATG. Droplets assist in weaving the dynamic content into Java Server Pages effortlessly. A person with no knowledge about JavaScript can also perform this task efficiently with the droplets. It becomes easy to control the rendering of dynamic content with droplets.

The input parameters for each droplet are as follows:

  • Array
  • Element Name
  • Index Name

8. What all things do you know about ATG DPS?

The answer to this Oracle interview question could be; DPS is an abbreviation for Dynamo Personalisation System. The data in the user profile is analysed, and personalised content appears in front of the user. All this is according to the business rules and for the better experience of the user. The prime motive of ATG is to provide personalised material to the user and enhance their interest in the site.

The components of ATG DPS are:

  • User Profile Management System
  • Content Targeting System

24. What will you do if you face any issues in starting the web server on Demantra?

This Oracle interview question is that of an advanced one. You could answer this Oracle interview question by saying;  If any issues are starting the web server, you need to revisit and explore the Collaborator.log file. This log file is found in the Collaborator Demantra log folder in the Oracle Demantra Web server.  Every individual web server will have logs in different directories. These logs are specified in the respective web server documentation and can help us to dig in further.

25. What happens when RVWR can’t write to the disk?

The further process depends on the fact that the writing error has occurred.

  • If the restore point is guaranteed, the database crashes to ensure that the restore point guarantee is not voided.
  • If there is no guarantee and it is a primary database, the flashback mode will be turned off automatically for the database allowing it to operate normally.
  • If there is no guarantee and it is a Standby database, the database will hang until the cause of the write failure is not fixed.

26. What are the basic requirements to enable a flashback database?

The requirements to enable flashback database are:

  • Your database must be running in ACHIEVELOG mode. This is because achieved logs are used in flashback database operation.
  • You must have a flash recovery area enabled. This is because Flashback logs can be stored only in the Flashback recovery area.
  • The flash recovery area must be stored in a clustered file system or an ASM for real application clusters databases.

27. Can a backup of flashback logs be created using RMAN?

No, using RMAN backup of Flashback logs can’t be created. If the command BACKUP RECOVERY AREA is used, then some contents of the FRA can be backed up. The files that can be backed up are full and control file auto backups, data file copies, incremental backup sets, and archived redo logs. Flashback files are transient files, so they can’t be backed up using RMAN. They are not essential for media recovery.

28. Is there any need to shut down and mount the database to switch on the flashback?

This is an important and tough Oracle interview question. ALTER DATABASE FLASHBACK ON is an online function of Oracle 11g. In Oracle 10g Release 2, the database must be mounted. Opening the database is not necessary.

When the flashback is turned on, Oracle starts to save the before images of the database blocks before they are changed. With this feature, the database can be flash-backed to the exact point of time when the flashback mode was being switched off.

29. What is the background process to write flashback logs?

Yes, there is a separate background process to write flashback logs. RVWR (Recovery writer that is also known as Flashback Writer) was introduced in Oracle 10g.

Flashback Writer is used to write flashback data from the flashback buffer in SGA to the flashback database logs on the disk.

30. What are the common errors with the Simulation engine or Demantra batch?

This is an important and tough Oracle interview question. The key engine logs can be found only under the root drive of the machine, at the place where the engine is launched. The folder that has all the logs is usually named Engine2k somewhere.

Make sure that there should be Engine2k logs in this folder. Engine2k logs are the logs that show the actual forecasting and splitting that the engine does.

If you want to write Master Engine Manager logs in this folder, you need to go to the Engine Administrator and change the Engine Manager log from SDL to FILE.

You should never re-register the engine after making this change.

Some of the important Oracle Demantra Questions are present here. Oracle Demantra is the best solution to manage the demands and chain supply. The cost of delivery and execution is reduced if Oracle Demantra is used judiciously. The demands can also be fulfilled easily and in an organised way.
